How to Download Instagram Videos on Android

Downloading an Instagram video on Android should end in the Downloads folder as an MP4, not as another app. Chrome can do that when the Reel or video is public. You copy the link, paste it at downloadinstavideos.com, play the preview, and tap the size button. No login, no extra store install, and no password.

Keep copies you are allowed to keep: your own posts, or a public clip the owner told you to save. Following a private account does not unlock it.

Download the video in Chrome

Open the public Reel or video in Instagram. Tap Share, then Copy link. Open Chrome and go to downloadinstavideos.com. Paste into the search bar and start the search. The player fits the screen. The download button is full width under the video, so a thumb can hit it.

Tap the button. The label shows the real size, often 720×1280. Chrome saves an MP4 to Downloads. Open it from the notification or from the Files app. A gallery app can import it if you want it beside the camera roll. Pick the normal video player if Android asks. VLC also works, but a standard H.264 and AAC file should not need a special codec.

The link Android should copy

Copy link is an address with /reel/ or /p/ and a short code. Paste all of it. The on-screen caption is not the address. If Instagram shows that the post is unavailable, Chrome has nothing to save. Copy the link again from the Share sheet.

If Chrome plays the video instead of saving

Stay on the result and tap the download button again. You can also use Chrome’s download icon after the file starts. Do not use Save page. That stores the website, not the Reel. The finished name should end in .mp4.

HD with sound on Android

Listen in the preview first. The button and the player are the same file, the one that already includes AAC audio. A sharp silent stream is left out, which is why you may see a single size instead of a list. 720×1280 is a normal HD Reel on a phone. A 1080 file appears only when it can be played with sound.

If the preview is a frozen cover, wait, press play, or search the same public URL again. A half-finished fetch looks like a thumbnail. The real Reel is several megabytes. A tiny file is not the video.

Storage and data

Check free space before a long clip. A download that dies at once is often a full phone. On metered data, switch to Wi-Fi for a large file. Do not close Chrome until the notification says the download finished. Stopping early cuts the ending off.

The gallery is optional

The site does not scan your photos. The MP4 arrives in Downloads. Move it into Gallery only if you want it there. Deleting it from Downloads deletes your copy. It does not delete the Reel on Instagram.

Volume

Play the saved file with media volume up. A muted notification stream can make the first playback seem silent even when the MP4 has AAC audio.

Skip the extra app

Android search results are full of downloader apps that want install permission, notification access, or an Instagram login. A public link does not need that. If the page asks you to continue with Instagram, leave. Paste only on downloadinstavideos.com, where the field is the URL.

Screen recording

A recording catches the Android buttons and loses detail. The MP4 from the public file is cleaner, at the size printed on the button. Record the screen only when the post has no public address.

Android questions

Is this free on Android?

Yes. Chrome and the public link are enough. You do not create an account to see 720p.

Which browser should I use?

Chrome is the straightforward one, because Downloads and the notification are obvious. Another modern browser can paste the same link if it can save an MP4.

Can I download a Reel from a private account I follow?

No. Ask them to send the file. This works when the link opens with no login.

The video saved with no sound. What happened?

Play the preview again. If the preview is silent, the public file may have no audio, or the music exists only in the Instagram app. If the preview has sound and the saved file does not, download that same button once more and play the new copy from Downloads.

Chrome settings that block the save

On some Android phones Chrome asks every time where to put a file, or it is set to block downloads. Allow the download when the phone asks, and choose the Downloads folder if it offers a picker. A work profile or a second user can hide the file from the gallery you are looking at. Open Files and check Downloads in the same profile where Chrome is installed. The MP4 is there when the notification completed, even if Gallery has not indexed it yet.

Samsung, Pixel, and other skins name the Files app differently. The folder is still Downloads. Do not search the camera roll first. The site never writes straight into the camera roll, which is why a successful save can look missing if you only open Gallery.

A full phone and a metered SIM

Android will fail a download immediately when storage is full, and it will feel like the link was bad. Delete a few large items, then paste the same public URL again. On mobile data, a long Reel is an expensive file. Wi-Fi does not change the steps. It only makes the preview start sooner and the MP4 finish. Wait for the notification. Pulling down the shade and cancelling the download produces a partial file that will not play to the end.

HD on a phone screen

A 720 by 1280 Reel already fills an Android phone sharply. Chasing a 1080 label is useful only when that file includes the soundtrack. This site shows the size that plays with audio. One button is easier to tap with a thumb than a stack of duplicates. If the preview sounds right, that button is the one to save.

What Android visitors should refuse

Refuse any downloader that wants Accessibility access, notification reading, or an Instagram login before a public link will run. Those permissions are not required to save an MP4. Refuse a file that is a few kilobytes. Refuse a download named .html. Go back to the result page, play the preview, and use the button that names the pixel size. The finished file ends in .mp4 and opens in the player you already have.

Your Reel, your backup

The usual reason to do this on Android is a Reel you posted from the phone and now want as a real file: a backup, a website, or a editor on a computer. Copy link, Chrome, save, then move the MP4 by cable, Nearby Share, or Drive. The original Reel stays on Instagram. Likes and comments stay. You only added a copy in Downloads.

Another person’s public video

A public link is not a license to repost their music or their footage. Download it when it is yours or when they asked you to keep it. If the account is private, stop. Following them does not create a public file, and this page will not pretend that it does.

Play it once before you move it

Open the new MP4 from the Chrome notification. Confirm the picture moves and the sound matches the preview. Then move it into a folder or into Gallery. Checking first avoids storing a cover image you mistook for the Reel.

Paste in Chrome

Copy the public link, open downloadinstavideos.com in Chrome, listen, and save the named size. The MP4 in Downloads is the Android copy, with the soundtrack included when the preview had sound.
